Christmas Eve Eve

Christmas day is Friday. Tomorrow is Christmas Eve. Today is Wednesday. I'm at work. I'm supposed to be working but it seems I'm writing in my blog instead. Oh well. Traditionally we observe this day - the last working day before our Christmas break - by just taking it easy, not working too hard, eating, drinking coffee, talking, and wondering if "corporate" is going to call and let us go early. We'll continue doing this right up until five o'clock. There are no more Christmas parties, no bonuses, not even any attaboys. This is the second straight year with no Christmas dinner ( which was usually just a barbecue tray from the closest barbecue joint) and the first with no bonus. Fifty dollars. Last year we pooled it and gave it all to a fellow employee whose wife had died a few months earlier so he could spend it on his kids. He bought a plasma TV. We were hoping to do the same this year for a fellow employee who's at home fighting liver cancer. Hard times are upon us. But we all really do feel lucky to still have our jobs. Really.
So I won't complain anymore. And I guess I'll stay til five. In fact I think I'll go on back to work.
